Prof. Shawn Christensen, Biology, was invited by the Library to choose an item to add to the Library's collection, purchased with the support of the Friends of the UT Arlington Library on the occasion of her Promotion to Associate Professor with Tenure.
Prof. Christensen chose The Selfish Gene (30th Anniversary edition) (ebook) by Richard Dawkiins, New York: Oxford University Press, 2006.
Prof. Christensen's remarks on this item:
"The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins was the seminal book that started me on the path to studying mobile genetic elements and genome evolution. The 'gene's-eye evolutionary point-of-view' of the arms race genes have with each other that was put forth in the book was truly an epiphany for me, a light-bulb moment that set me on the path to graduate school and ultimately to my position at UT Arlington. The Selfish Gene laid the intellectual framework for understanding mobile genetic elements and genome evolution."
