Prof. Nancy Palmeri, Art & Art History, was invited by the Library to choose an item to add to the Library's collection, purchased with the support of the Friends of the UT Arlington Library on the occasion of his Promotion to Professor.
Prof. Palmeri chose Atlas by Gerhard Richter, edited by Helmut Fiedel, Koln, New York: Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther Konig; New York: D.A.P./Distributed Art Publishers, 2006.
Prof. Palmeri's remarks on this item:
"Gerhard Richter's Atlas is a comprehensive publication that maps an artist's ideas, processes, life and times. As a studio artist/educator, I have shared the strategy of Richter's Atlas with my own students, asking them to raise their awareness of the visual world. This broader level of experience has helped to drive my students towards a higher level of visual and conceptual thinking. Recently, in my courses, the Atlas has been transformed into a collection of shared Instagram photographs. By using this smartphone application as a tool for sharing creative influences, we are able to have glimpses into our studio practices and creative processes."
