Prof. Michaela Vancliff, Mathematics, was invited by the Library to choose an item to add to the Library's collection, purchased with the support of the Friends of the UT Arlington Library on the occasion of his Promotion to Professor.
Prof. Vancliff chose Growth of Algebras and Gelfand-Kirillov Dimension (Revised Edition) by Günter R. Krause, Thomas H. Lenagan, Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society, 2000.
Prof. Vancliff's remarks on this item:
"This book is a delight to read as it not only provides a very thorough treatment of a fundamental concept, Gefand-Kirillov dimension, in non-commutative algebra, but it does so by taking the reader on an excursion through the myriad of topics within the world of modern abstract algebra. The end result is a book that quickly and gracefully introduces the student to many of the major areas of research study within non-commutative algebra, while simultanously teaching the student about one of the key players in the subject."
