Searching for Lost & Missing Materials

Looking for materials in one of the UT Arlington Library but can't find it on the shelf? Let us help!

If library materials are listed in the UT Arlington Library Catalog as "Not Checked Out" AND you can't find them on the shelf, go to the Circulation Desk of the library where they are supposed to be.

The circulation staff will ask you to fill out a "Search" form. On the form, tell us what material you couldn't find. Also tell us who you are and how we can contact you.

We will search for the material twice over a period of about a week and a half. When we find the material, we will contact you and hold the material for you to pick up. These materials are held for 8 days at the Circulation Desk where you requested it be held for you.

If we don't find the material in that period, we will contact you and mark that material as "Missing" while we continue to search for it. If we weren't able to find the material, you will be able to request it through Interlibrary Loan.

We also will search for materials that you have checked out but you think you have lost.

If this is your situation, go to the library where you checked out the material and tell them you think you might have lost a book. The circulation staff will have you fill out a "Report of Lost Book" form.

When you fill out this form, the Libraries will search for the book, in case it had been returned. You should also continue to search for the book among your possessions. Once this form is filled out, overdue fines will not continue to accrue if the book is already overdue.

When you and the Libraries are sure that the book is truly lost, you will be charged lost books fees.
