Central Library

UT Arlington's largest library facility with collections in most subject areas and study spaces throughout the building, from Sam's Click Café and multimedia group study rooms to places to watch videos and DVD's and places for quiet individual study. Technology services available include laptop available for checkout, a wireless network, GIS assistance and a Digital Media Studio. The Library is a popular meeting and studying place and is open continuously from 9 a.m. on Sundays through 8 p.m. on Fridays. It is also open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Central Library also hosts many other facilities including the UT Arlington Help Desk, the Writing Center, a GIS computer lab, a videoconferencing facility and Java City.

Within the walls of Central Library you will find a large collection of circulating books, reference books, periodicals (current and bound), course reserve materials. In addition to the general collection located in Central Library there are also several specialized collections including Government Documents, a Law Collection, and the Special Collections. A Popular Reading Collection provides recently published bestsellers in fiction and non-fiction. The Multicultural Collection is focused on the four major ethnic minorities found in the Southwest: African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Native Americans. The Reading Resources Room provides materials to support the College of Education including young adult and children's books as well as a selection of Texas approved K-12 textbooks.

Services

Reference Assistance
Knowledgeable librarians provide assistance with research and instruction in using library resources.

Circulation Services
Located on the first floor, the Circulation Desk is the place to go to check-out or return materials, request course reserves materials, borrow a laptop or obtain a borrower's card. Circulation staff will assist you with all of your borrowing needs.

Digital Media Studio
Stop by the Digital Media Studio, located in B29, to work on your multimedia project. You'll find high-end computers (PCs and Macs) loaded with the latest software in this state-of-the-art facility.

Special Collections & Archives
On the 6th floor of Central Library, Special Collections specializes in historical materials relating to Texas, the Mexican American War of 1846-1848, the cartographic history of Texas and the Gulf of Mexico, and Mexico from 1810-1920. Special Collections also hosts exhibitions of its holdings several times per year.

Group Study Rooms
The Central Library has open access group study rooms on the 3rd, 4th and 5th floors - 309, 316, 317, 318, 409, 416, 418, 519, 520A and 520B. The rooms are available to 2 or more people who wish to use them. The basement has also been designated as a group study area and has open tables at which groups can work together. Four Reserved Group Study Rooms available in Central Library include plasma displays, DVD/VCR players, and SMART Boards.

Quiet Study Areas
The 5th floor of the Central Library, where numerous individual carrels are located, is designated for quiet study. Quiet Sam's is a computer facility that is designated as a quiet area.

Computers & Wireless Network
Computers are available throughout the building and require UT Arlington authentication for use. These are available for accessing the library's online catalog, electronic resources and the Internet and include the Microsoft Office Suite. Laptops are available for checkout at the Circulation Desk located on the first floor. Wireless Internet access is available on all floors. Quota-based printing is available.

Copiers
Photocopy services in the UT Arlington Library are provided by the XEROX Copy Center. A full service Copy Center is located in Central Library B03 (across from the elevators). Self-service copiers are located throughout the Library. Copiers accept money or copy cards and a card regeneration machine is available for purchasing or adding value to copy cards.

Binding for UT Arlington Departments
Assistance in binding books or periodicals owned by UT Arlington departments is available from the Libraries' Binding Services Unit. This provides departments with access to state contract rates for binding which are significantly lower than open market rates.

UT Arlington Help Desk
The Help Desk provides face-to-face contact with the Office of Information Technology staff and is open extended hours to assist UT Arlington students, faculty and staff with their computing needs. Users can activate their Windows NT Account, pick up documentation, get answers to questions regarding computer usage at UT Arlington, consult with an expert, and more. Writing Center
The UT Arlington Writing Center, located in Central Library 411, is a service of the English Department that helps UT Arlington students become better writers. Tutors provide help to undergraduate students on any essay, project, or report you are writing for an undergraduate class; application essays for scholarships or graduate programs; job application letters and resumes; and creative or personal writing. Tutors offer limited assistance to graduate students with writing tasks. More information...
