Maps & Atlases

Description:

Printed maps

The Libraries' general collection of folded and sheet maps is housed in this area. It includes topographic maps, thematic maps of the Earth as a whole, maps of continents, and nations, thematic resource maps (e.g. mining), road maps, state maps, city maps, etc. Significant map series include those produced by several US government agencies, e.g., the U.S. Geological Survey, the Forestry Service, the CIA, and NASA. Maps from commercial publishers are also represented.

Other maps are located in Special Collections.

Atlases

Many of the Libraries' atlases are housed in this area. Coverage is broad including current general world atlases, national and state atlases, political and commercial atlases. The collection also includes historical and thematic atlases such as those presenting cultural, linguistic, or maritime information. Atlases are also available in other collections.
