108 American Literature
Chapters will be divided in much the same way they are in Eight American Authors and Sixteen Modern American Authors, i.e., with sections on “Bibliography,” “Editions,” “Manuscripts and Letters,” “Biography,” and “Criticism.” Countries in which there has been a great deal of scholarship and criticism done will have a full chapter devoted to them; countries with less activity may be grouped together in additional chapters, with individual contributors dealing with each country in the group. He is looking for scholars interested either in undertaking chapters for the volume themselves or in recommending others qualified to do so. Qualifications should include extensive knowledge of American literary studies in the country to be surveyed, publications in the field, and excellent command of English (the essays will be written in English).
