Anthropological Index Online Guide
Introduction
The Anthropological Index Online provides a listing of the current periodicals in the Museum of Mankind Library (incorporating the former Royal Anthropological Institute library). The Museum of Mankind is effectively Britain's national anthropological library, with a stock of over 120,000 volumes and an intake of some 4,000 periodical titles, of which 1400 are current. The Royal Anthropological Institute, the parent organization of the Museum of Mankind and its Library, provides a forum for 'anthropology as a whole', embracing social anthropology, biological anthropology, and the study of material culture.

The Anthropological Index Online provides bibliographic references back to the 1950s, and the Anthropological Index Online database is updated regularly and contains a total of about 274,000 records. Anthropological Index Online is available to current UT Arlington Faculty, and UT Arlington Students on the web at this addresses:

Searching

The Anthropological Index Online has an unusual search engine. The user must choose a time frame, such as all years, then provide words that might occur in titles or other parts of the citations. Here is an example to illustrate a search:

PUBERTY RITE

This statement will find material that uses the two word phrase "puberty rite" and will also automatically find the plural "puberty rites".
