Congratulations to The Psycho Llamas, winners of the April 12, 2017 Pitch of the Week (POW!) Preliminary Challenge. Team members include Rahul Dwivedi, a freshman Actuarial Science major who minors in Business, Salman Danesh, a junior Communications & Public Relations major, and Yen Nguyen, a freshman Nursing major. On March 23, I participated on a panel discussion at the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) 2017 Conference in Baltimore, MD. The panel was titled "Casting a Wide Net: The Library’s Role in Transforming Partnerships Across Campus" and included four panelists all discussing innovative faculty-librarian collaborations on their campuses. My portion was about the Maker Literacies Task Force and our work with subject faculty at UTA in the Maker Literacies pilot program. Congratulations to The Almost Invisible Cows, winners of the April 5, 2017 Pitch of the Week (POW!) Preliminary Challenge. Team members include Suehyun Lee, a sophomore Nursing major who minors in Leadership, Reece Walker, a senior Public Relations major who minors in Advertising, and Cyril Lutterodt, a Psychology and Computer Science double major. Their pitch was for Liquid Latex Clothing that can be custom designed and printed from a video game interface. In April, UTA Libraries will host a game-show-style pitch contest called POW! (Pitch of the Week!).

We seek undergraduate students from all subject disciplines to compete. Every contestant will get a $10 gift card, and winners of the final round will upgrade to a $50 gift card. Gift card options include, MakerShed, Starbucks, Einstein Bros Bagels, and UTA printing funds.

No special knowledge or skills are required. Contestants will be placed in teams and given a random prompt. Teams will have 20 minutes to brainstorm an idea for an invention, a product, a service,...

In Fall 2016, UT Arlington Libraries began a pilot program with faculty across campus to integrate the UTA FabLab and “maker literacies” into course curricula.
