The Friends of the Library

A growing and vigorous university needs libraries rich in resources and services. To support the rapid growth of The University of Texas at Arlington, the University Library is committed to building and providing electronic access to resources, improving services and enhancing public outreach programs. The Friends of the UT Arlington Library, an organization chartered in 1987, offers community support in the Library's drive toward excellence.

The UT Arlington Library is emerging as a noted research center in the Southwest. Special Collections has gained national recognition for its broad holdings of Texana, Mexican War materials, cartographic history resources, manuscripts and photographic, labor and political archives. The Compass Rose, the newsletter published by Special Collections, keeps Friends and patrons informed of significant acquisitions, donations, exhibits and programs.

The Library's holdings in many other fields, including art, architecture, science, business and engineering, as well as its collections of government documents, support the University's outstanding degree programs in these areas. In addition, the Library provides users electronic access to a world of sources. The newsletter, UT Arlington Library Notes, and the Annual Report inform Friends and supporters of the Library's new resources and initiatives.

Members of the Friends of the UT Arlington Library participate in the worthwhile effort to enrich library collections and services. Such participation and financial support touch the lives of virtually every UT Arlington student, faculty and staff member and provide a unique opportunity for an individual or business to benefit the University and the surrounding community. The resources provided by the Friends complement the funds budgeted by UT Arlington and The University of Texas System.
