Industry Research
Standard Industrial Classification Manual (SIC): 1987
Contains the classification scheme (commonly known as SIC Codes) devised by the federal government to group like businesses together. This code has been used since the 1930s and was replaced by the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) in 1997. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS)
NAICS replaced the SIC codes in 1997. It provides common industry definitions for Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The new NAICS system replaces the countries' separate classification systems with one uniform system for classifying industries.
