Cartographic Connections

This site features historic maps of Texas and the Southwest, dating from the 1500s through the 1900s. Teachers can search for maps by keyword or date. Each map has a TEKS-aligned lesson plan accompanying it.

History's Lessons

History's Lessons is collection of reproducible documents, images, and maps from the Special Collections Division of the UT Arlington Library. Each item has a TEKS-aligned lesson plan accompanying it.

The Portal to Texas History offers students and lifelong learners online access to some of the rich collections held in Texas libraries, museums, archives, historical societies, and private collections.

TAKS Readiness

Help your students take advantage of the UT TeleCampus' free online TAKS test readiness tool, TRACK -- TAKS Readiness and Core Knowledge. In TRACK you will find diagnostics to measure understanding of the objectives tested on the 11th grade exit-level test, and a library of learning tutorials to help you better understand those objectives.

Tejano Voices

The Tejano Voices Project focuses on seventy-seven oral history interviews with Tejano and Tejana leaders from across the state. These interviews were conducted in 1992-1999, and emphasize the personal stories and struggles of the interviewees, many of whom are the first individuals of Mexican descent in their communities elected or appointed to government office. The interviews were recorded and transcribed, and made available to students, scholars, and the general public.

UT Arlington Library's How-To Guides

The UT Arlington Library has created a series of free printable pamphlets to help students with their research. Topics include:

Acknowledging Sources Online Tutorial

This online tutorial educates students about plagiarism and gives them techniques for avoiding it. As a teacher, you can have students email you their score after they pass the included quiz. (Best viewed with Internet Explorer 6 or later. Disable all pop-up blockers before entering. To report technical difficulties or to get help contact us)

Teachers and students can have one-day onsite access to online resources as well as borrowing privileges from the Libraries.

Borrowing Privileges

• Up to 5 items checked out at one time
• Check out books for 21 days
• Check out of some special materials
• Renew materials 2 times for 21 days each time, unless an item has been placed on hold for another user

Adults and students over the age of 18 need to complete our library card application and present it to the Central Library Circulation Desk. Proof of school affiliation is required with your application.

Cards are only issued at the Central Library Circulation Desk.

Online Resources

The UT Arlington Library subscribes to many databases which may help you to create new lesson plans for your class or to get informed about trends in the field. To see a list of resources relating to education, visit http://libguides.uta.edu/education

Reading Resources Room

The Reading Resources Room in Central Library holds children's literature and K-12 textbooks to support the curriculum of the UT Arlington College of Education. For more information, see the Reading Resources Room web page. The Library also maintains lists of the winners of the Caldecott, Newbery, and Texas Bluebonnet Awards.

Internet Access

All visitors wishing to use the computers to access library resources or the Internet must register for a temporary one-day computer account. Accounts are issued immediately and remain valid until midnight of the day issued. To get a temporary computer account:

1. Go the UT Arlington Help Desk in the Central Library or to the Information Desk in the Science & Engineering Library or Architecture & Fine Arts Library
2. Present a photo ID -- driver's license, work ID, school ID, etc.
3. Visitors under the age of 18 need to submit a completed Parental Consent Form (PDF). Only one form is needed for each academic year (September-August).

Online databases and publications contain information protected by copyright. Visitors are expected to adhere to our Database Copyright and Use Statement.

A guest computer account is a privilege granted to visitors, and the Library reserves the right to suspend or amend this privilege if a user does not follow the guidelines set forth in the Computer Use Policy.

Classes and groups who are scheduled to use the Library's hands-on classroom do not need temporary computer accounts.

Instruction and Tours

UT Arlington librarians are happy to give your class a tour or to lead instruction sessions about conducting research, citing sources, or avoiding plagiarism. To schedule a tour or class, contact Evelyn Barker at (817) 272-6064 or ebarker@uta.edu.

To request one-day guest passes for classes or groups visiting the libraries, contact Evelyn Barker at least five working days prior to visit at (817) 272-6064 or ebarker@uta.edu. Individuals wishing to come on their own may make parking arrangements by contacting the Parking Office at (817) 272-3907.
