Using Library Reserves & Media

Materials are put on Reserve because they are in high demand. By being on Reserve, they are checked out for short periods of time so that they are available to as many library users as possible. We try to protect them against loss or theft by requiring that you ask for them at the Reserves Desk and that you check them out before using them.

Reserves materials are subject to copyright regulations. The UT Arlington Library Reserves Copyright Guidelines outline the materials we can and cannot place on reserve.

The Reserves Desk is also where you'll find media such as videocassettes, audiocassettes, and computer disks.

We also provide some UT Arlington course materials on the web through E-Reserves.

Borrowing Reserves Items

Loan periods for Reserves items are:

  • 2 hours, Library Use Only
  • 3 hours, May Leave Library
  • 24 hours
  • 3 days
  • 7 days

Reserves items cannot be renewed.

These loan periods were chosen by the faculty member, for materials on reserve for a class; or by a librarian, for other materials on reserve. If you disagree with a loan period, talk to your faculty member if the material is for your class, or ask us for other materials.

"Library Use Only" means that you cannot take the material out of the library.

Please remember that materials on Reserve for a class are often the property of your professor.

Reserves materials have a higher overdue fine than regular materials.

Loan Period Overdue Fine
2 hr, Library Use Only
3 hr, May Leave Library
2 cents per minute
$30 maximum fine
24 hr 2 cents per minute
$30 maximum fine

7 day

When an item is not returned, we will bill you for the replacement of the item.

Bill-for-replacement charges consist of 3 parts:

  • The replacement cost of the item (from Books In Print, or from the average "NEW" price for books in that subject area if the book is no longer in print or from the faculty member for class materials)
  • The overdue fine
  • A processing fee of $35.00

Borrowing Media Items
