UT Arlington Library Electronic Reserves Copyright Policy

The UT Arlington Library follow the copyright laws of the United States and the copyright policies of the University of Texas at Arlington as presented in the UT Arlington Handbook of Operating Procedures at http://policy.uta.edu/index.php?navid=15337%26view=16829%26resid=15451%2315459.

We also follow policies of the University of Texas System as presented in the UT System Comprehensive Copyright Policy and "Use of Copyrighted Materials".

We are guided by the UT System's "Fair Use of Copyrighted Materials", "Fair Use Guidelines for Electronic Reserve Systems", and the "Rules of Thumb for Digitizing and Using Others' Works in Electronic Reserves".

As such, we:

  • Digitize and make available, at the request of the instructor, copyright protected material within Fair Use guidelines, including an accompanying copyright statement, the copyright notice on the original, and appropriate citations and attributions to the source
  • Limit access to UT Arlington students to the materials for the course(s) in which they are currently enrolled, UT Arlington faculty to the materials for the course(s) they are currently teaching, and UT Arlington Library staff involved with E-reserves processing and support
  • Remove electronic course reserve materials when the academic session within which the course is offered has ended
  • Obtain permission from the copyright holder(s) when the digitization and provision of access to copyright protected materials is not within Fair Use guidelines
  • Follow any restrictions of the copyright holder(s) as specified by the terms of the permission
