Study Carrel Rules and Regulations

Carrels are only assigned to applicant in graduate or doctoral program, faculty, conducting research at UTA. Carrels are only assigned on a first come/first serve basis in the UTA Central Library.

  1. Library materials used in the carrels must be checked out as if they were leaving the building.MATERIALS NOT CHECKED OUT WILL BE REMOVED BY LIBRARY STAFF.
  2. Listening to music is permitted if headphones are used. Cell phone use in the carrel area is not allowed. The carrel occupant must be considerate of others since many are studying in a small area.
  3. Only the person assigned to a carrel is permitted to use it.
  4. When not in use, carrels are to remain locked at all times.
  5. The Libraries assume no responsibility for personal items left in the carrels.
  6. The carrel key should be returned immediately after the carrel is vacated. The replacement cost for a lost key is $37.50.
  7. To renew or cancel your Study Carrel, you will need to apply and select "renewal" or "cancel". If you do not submit an application for renewal or cancellation by the end of the current semester, your carrel will be emptied and issued to a waiting applicant when your borrowing length expires. Any items found in the study carrel at evacuation will be remitted to the Library's security office.
  8. If a carrel key is not returned, the University Libraries will bill the carrel occupant the cost ($37.50) for the new replacement key. The amount due will be payable through the UTA Business Office or through your MyMav Account.
  9. Borrowing duration: the borrowing duration of a Study Carrel is the length of the academic year from August 1st to July 31st.
    • If you obtain a study carrel within the fall semester, your borrowing length will expire on July 31stst.
    • If you obtain a study carrel within the spring semester, your borrowing length will expire on July 31st.
    • If you obtain a study carrel within the summer semester, your borrowing length will expire on July 31st.
