Wednesday, April 13, 2005
12:05-1:15 pm Central Library Parlor

Christopher R. Scotese, Associate Professor, Ph.D.,
Earth & Environmental Sciences, Geology;
University Award for Distinguished Record of Research
or Creative Activity, 1993; Winner of Scientific
American's Sci/Tech Web Award in 2001 & 2002.

Dr. Scotese, Associate Professor of Geology at the University of Texas at Arlington and head of the PALEOMAP Project, will discuss recent disasters from the perspective of his research in plate tectonics, paleogeography, and paleoclimatology. He will take the audience back hundreds of millions of years of earth history to look at the shift of the continents over time.

The goal of the PALEOMAP Project is to illustrate the plate tectonic development of the ocean basins and continents, as well as the changing distribution of land and sea during the past 1100 million years. Visit the web site at http://www.scotese.com to learn more about Dr. Scotese's research.
