Who can use these services?

These services are intended primarily for current students, faculty and staff of UT Arlington. Anyone may use the services, but we can only provide limited assistance to those outside the campus community.

Which service should I use?

The Live Help, IM, Web Chat, Email and Phone services should be used for answers to short, factual questions as well as questions regarding the Library's resources, services, and facilities. For questions requiring in-depth research or assistance you should utilize one of the Face-to-Face options by visiting the Reference Desk, Paper's Due Drop Inn, or scheduling a Research Consultation.

Are session transcripts saved?

Web chat and email transcripts are saved and used by UT Arlington librarians in order to improve our services to you. IM transcripts are not saved.

For "Web Chat" service, why do you ask for my name and email address?

We will email the transcript to you if you request it. We may also contact you later requesting feedback on the service you received.

What is IM and how does it work?

IM stands for "Instant Message," and refers to software like AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) which can be used to have a live conversation with a librarian. To contact us, add our screen names to your buddy list. Send a message from your IM software to one of our screen names.

Have a Google Talk, AIM, MSN, or Yahoo account but don't want to install client software?

Use Live Help.

Don't want to use IM?

Use our Web Chat service or one of the other methods provided.

What are the hours/locations for these services?

Live Help, IM, Web Chat, E-mail & Phone:

Monday through Thursday: 8am to 12am
Friday: 8am to 6pm
Saturday:9am to 6pm
Sunday: 10am to 12am

Face to Face:

• Reference Desk - hours and locations
• Paper's Due Drop Inn - Mon-Thurs, 4-6pm, Central Library Basement, Room B-20
• Research Consultation - usually can be scheduled within the week

Note: Hours may vary during breaks and holidays.
