Borrowing Reserves Items

Materials are put on Reserve because they are in high demand. By being on Reserve, they are checked out for short periods of time so that they are available to as many library users as possible. We try to protect them against loss or theft by requiring that you ask for them at the Reserves Desk and that you check them out before using them. E-Reserves are reserve materials that are made available on the Web and require a password for access.

Media such as videocassettes, audiocassettes, and computer disks are also placed on reserve and available at the Reserves Desk, but they have different borrowing rules from Reserves items.

Loan Periods and Fines

Reserve loan periods are chosen by the faculty member, for materials on reserve for a class; or by a librarian, for other materials on reserve. If you disagree with a loan period, talk to your faculty member if the material is for your class, or ask us for other materials.

Reserves items cannot be renewed. "Library Use Only" means that you cannot take the material out of the library.

Please remember that materials on Reserve for a class are often the property of your professor.

Reserves materials have a higher overdue fine than regular materials. When an item is not returned, we will bill you for the replacement of the item.

Finding Reserves Call Numbers

The Reserves collection consists of nearly 1000 items. Please help us serve you promptly by bringing the call number for the item to the Circulation Desk.

Here are some tips to help you get started:

You can find the call number in the UT Arlington Library Catalog

  • Select the Course Reserves tab (do this step for me).
  • Search by the professor's name or your course number.
  • If more than one item is on reserve, a course reserve list will appear.
  • Select the title you want.
  • For hardcopy items the record will give you a call number and tell you whether it is checked out.
  • For E-Reserves item click on the "Web Link" to access the item. See instructions below for more information about using electronic reserves.

Using Electronic Reserves

E-Reserves are reserve materials that are available on the Web. They are made available elecctronically at the request of the instructor. Here is what you need to know about using E-Reserves:

  • You'll need a password to read your e-reserves course materials. This password is different for each course you're taking. Ask your instructor for your course's password.
  • Most e-reserves readings are in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. Download Adobe Acrobat Reader here for free if you don't already have it.
  • The E-Reserves FAQ contains more information about using E-Reserves.
