Mavs Open Press Publishing Services

Journal Publishing

Mavs Open Press offers no-cost services for scholars who wish to publish a new open-access journal or for those who would like to convert an existing print journal that has traditional copyright to OA and digital-only. Our journal publishing services include the following:

  • Obtaining an ISSN for the journal and DOIs for articles;
  • Assisting with all aspects of technical setup and production of each issue, including in some cases layout and copyediting*;
  • Providing a publishing platform that simplifies the peer-review process and includes options for blind or double-blind review;
  • Hosting open-access digital content on a secure server with frequent backups and built-in redundancies;
  • Consulting on copyright questions;
  • Maximizing discoverability of your journal through search-engine optimization and robust metadata; and
  • Preserving and archiving the digital content in perpetuity.

Using Online Journal Systems (OJS) software, we provide technical support for the managing editor and editorial board through the submission, peer-review, and final publication process. For more information about starting a journal or porting an existing journal to Mavs Open Press, contact Director of Publishing Jody Bailey or peruse our guide. For technical assistance with OJS, see our users' guide or contact our Digital Project Librarian Faedra Wills.

Book Publishing

Mavs Open Press can also help you publish your book in open access, digital format. Whether it's a scholarly monograph discussing high-level research or a less formal work that focuses on teaching practice or other topics, we can help with the following:

  • Obtaining an ISBN;
  • Providing design and layout services so that the book can be printed on demand, if desired;
  • Consulting on copyright questions;
  • Maximizing discoverability of your book through search-engine optimization and robust metadata; and
  • Preserving and archiving the digital content in perpetuity.
