Special Collections

On the 6th floor of Central Library, Special Collections specializes in historical materials relatings to Texas, the U.S. War with Mexico (1846-1848), the cartographic history of Texas and the Gulf of Mexico, and Mexico from 1810-1920. The collections include more than 50,000 volumes, 9,000 linear feet of manuscript and archival collections, 7,000 historical maps, 4 million photographic prints and negatives, and thousands of items in other formats.

Special Collections has a staff of eleven, including librarians, archivists, and paraprofessionals. In addition, the program area employs a number of students each semester and offers volunteer opportunities for individuals interested in assisting staff. Special Collections publishes a newsletter, The Compass Rose, twice a year and mounts exhibits relating to its holdings. Special Collections serves UT Arlington students, staff, and faculty as well as researchers from around the world.

Collections

UT Arlington Library's Special Collections has built a diverse research collection and collects materials in virtually all formats and makes them available to researchers. The holdings of the Special Collections can be divided into the following categories: Archives, Digital Collections, Historical Manuscripts, Map Collections, Photographs and Graphics, Print Collection, and Spanish Language Collections.
