Spanish Language Collections

Special Collections holds several extensive and diverse Mexican and Spanish language collections dating from 1554 to the 1950s with the majority dating from the late 17th century through the mid-20th century. The collections include both original manuscripts and microfilm.

Microfilm Collections

Yucatán Microfilm:
Collections include the records from the Archivo de la Mitra, 1557-1931; Archivo Notarial, 1689-1900; Archivo General del Estado, 1683-1933; and the Hemeroteca del Estado, 1821-1980. Maritza Arrigunaga Coello published a guide to the microfilm entitled Catálogo de las Fotocopias de los Documentos y Periódicos Yucatecos en la Biblioteca de la Universidad de Texas en Arlington published by UT Arlington press in 1983. These collections include 1,078 reels of microfilm.

Honduran Microfilm:
Special Collections conducted a grant-funded microfilm project of various Honduran archives that produced 370 reels of microfilm. The archives included six major sections of the Honduras National Archives, eleven Municipal Archives, two Judiciary Archives, a large portion of the Bishopric of Comayagua's Archives, records from the Cathedral San Miguel at Tegucigalpa, and two collections from the Honduran Institute of Anthropology and History.
