Special Collections Use Guidelines

One of the major goals of Special Collections is to acquire, preserve, and make available to researchers historical materials of enduring value reflecting the history of Texas, Northern Mexico, the Mexican American War of 1846-1848, the University of Texas at Arlington, and the cartography of the Greater Southwest. Many items housed in Special Collections are rare and irreplaceable. This is especially true of archives and manuscript collections, which, by their nature, are unique.

Special Collections is open to any researcher wanting to make use of the materials in its collections, subject to regulations applicable to all Special Collections materials outlined below. In addition, because of the special nature of archive and manuscript materials, the staff asks users to carefully read and follow the policies for Handling of Archives and Manuscripts.

To facilitate your visit, an Information Request Form and an Application for Use of Materials Form have been included at this online site. If you have questions, please direct them to the Special Collections Online Reference or to a staff member at the Division's onsite Reference Desk. Please note the onsite research area is not available for independent study, group study, or meetings.
