Description - Slidell arrived in Jalapa on December 20. Slidell reported that Paredes’ support among certain army regiments which had initially supported his revolt was already on the wane. Slidell dismissed rumors that Paredes intended to bring back the Spanish monarchy, which, he believed, did not have the support of the army.
