In February UTA Libraries began hosting its very own drone club. The Libraries supplied materials to construct two quadcopter drones and solicited the help of Thomas Perappadan, CSE undergraduate student and drone enthusiast, to facilitate a series of hands-on workshops where club members would learn to design, construct, program and pilot the drones.

Attendance at club meetings have ranged from five to twenty people. Students are encouraged to bring their own drones or drone kits to tinker with, or to help with the two kits supplied by the Libraries. Once completed, the two drones...

Dr. Jaime Cantu’s Engineering Project Management course participated in the Maker Literacies program again for the third consecutive semester. Students were assigned to work collaboratively in teams to manufacture a stuffed animal horse while learning about and implementing project management fundamentals. Although I had to cancel my presentation on the State of Make: Texas, which was to be an overview of results from our 2016 makerspace survey, I still had the pleasure of co-presenting with my department head, Gretchen Trkay and our FabLab director, Katie Musick Peery, on a panel about integrating maker literacies into experiential learning assignments.
