In an attempt to retrieve a cannon held by the citizens of Gonzales, Lt. Francisco de Castañeda and 100 Mexican dragoons are fired upon by approximately 140 Texas colonists led by John H. Moore on the banks of the Guadalupe river, seven miles west of Gonzales. Two Mexican soldiers are reported killed in the incident, which sparked the Texas rebellion.
