Labadie, M., Pole, K., & Rogers, R. Re-reading, Re-writing, and Re-imagining Texts: Critical Literacy in an Early Childhood Classroom
This study explored the rereading of text as a form of critical literacy development with young children. Data was collected across a school year in a kindergarten classroom, and focused specifically on rereading in the context of teacher read-alouds. The research was guided by the questions: In what ways does rereading open spaces for critical literacy? How does critical literacy develop across multiple interactions with a text? This study calls attention to the ways that students collaboratively discuss and investigate text across time, spanning multiple readings, and co-construct ideas around texts.
