Integrity First: West Point and John Goolsby
Dr. James Campbell Quick, Management
October 12, 2011

“Character” is a defining feature of West Point and of John Goolsby. The current West Point-Goolsby exchange began in 2007 and evolved into the collaboration of 2011. We found it a challenge to define and measure character, yet measuring character has value. West Point and Goolsby are engaged in joint research with the Center for Character-based Leadership at Kansas State University, using the Character Strength Inventory (CSI) and its five signature strengths of character. Initial results of two studies, one at UT Arlington and the other at Syracuse University are promising. We conclude with a spotlight on John Goolsby’s 2011 Distinguished Professional Contribution on Award article that emphasizes integrity, positive ethics, and strength of character.
