UTA Libraries’ Textbook Hero video series showcases educators who have adopted open educational resources or other affordable course content, which reduces barriers to education.

Dr. Bonnie Boardman, featured in episode four, replaced a traditional textbook with video tutorials and problem sets available through Lynda.com, which allowed her to flip her classroom into a lecture-free, active-learning space. Content available through Lynda is fully protected by copyright and, therefore, is not remix and revisable in the way open educational resources are; however, the university’s subscription access ensures that all students have free and equal access to the course content.

In Fall 2017 alone, Dr. Boardman saved students nearly $3,500 by adopting an affordable course resource. The UTA community can access Lynda.com through the Libraries’ A-Z Database list.
