Heroes and Villains

The success of World Class Championship Wrestling depended to a considerable extent on the booking of strict face (good guy) versus heel (bad guy) matches. At a time when such lines were blurring and anti-heroes like Jake "The Snake" Roberts and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper were becoming popular, WCCW remained very traditional in its presentation of wrestling's traditional morality play--to the delight of their raucous crowds, who cheered for Texas and the Von Erichs and booed menacing heels such as the Freebirds, Kamala the Ugandan Giant, King Kong Bundy, and the Great Kabuki.
