State Fair Midway, 1950

Fall is in the air -- that means it is time for the Texas State Fair! Dallas commercial photographer, Squire Haskins, captured views of the Texas State Fair midway in October 1950. Fairgoers passed through this midway marquee to ride on the Rolloplane, the Ferris wheel, the Flyoplane, and the Rock-o-plane. Side shows featured the Flying Saucer (admission 9¢) and Sally Rand and her bubble dance. The Squire Haskins, Inc. Photograph Collection is comprised of some 223,000 images produced from 1947 through 1999. They document the explosive commercial, industrial and neighborhood growth of the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Although primarily focused on Dallas aerial, architectural, commercial, State Fair and convention assignments, the collection includes substantial aerial views of Fort Worth and Tarrant County sites.
