Description: Mrs. Frances Wallace O'Farrell, an Army nurse is pictured here. She is wearing a check patterned dress, hat, wristwatch, bracelet and a necklace. She is standing against a bare wall, facing front and smiling for the camera. As a member of the State University's hospital unit she followed the Texas flag ashore at Omaha Beach less than a month after D-Day. She was severely wounded when stepped on a land mine near Cannes, France, in May 1945, shortly after the end of the war in Europe. She is under treatment and fighting for recovery from 11 wounds and a broken leg. She wears the Purple Heart and two battle stars and was separated from service in January as a first lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps. She is a graduate of the Harris Memorial Methodist Hospital School of Nursing and plans to continue her studies for a degree in nursing education at Texas Christian University (TCU) this fall. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition August 2, 1946.
