Description: Staff Sergeant Bill L. Leonard receiving check from John W. Wallace as a special fund of appreciation for his service. The check was contributed by Star-Telegram readers as special fund amounted to $5,378.40. Sergeant Leonard served with the 36th Division as a 1st Special Service paratrooper where he lost both of his legs. He is shown sitting in a wheelchair. Mr. Wallace is commander of Blackstone Post of the American Legion. Behind them, left to right, are J. L. Crawford, Craig Laine, Raymond E. Galbreath, (all of the Blackstone Post) and the retired Lieutenant Colonel Andrew F. Price. Lt. Col. Price was in several campaigns with Sergeant Leonard. Some of the men are wearing a garrison cap. The photo is taken outdoors in a local neighborhood. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition, December 2, 1945.
