Title: Private First Class Samuell C. R. Smith of the Marines
Description: Shown here is a copy of framed portrait of Private First Class (Pfc.) Samuell C. R. Smith of the Marines. He is wearing marine uniform, facing front and smiling. He won the Bronze Star Medal for action on Iwo Jima. His citation was for heroic service in connection with operations against the enemy while serving in a communications section of a Marine infantry battalion on Iwo Jima February 19. His twin brother Private First Class (Pfc.) John J. S. Smith Jr., was killed on Iwo Jima on March 2 who was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart. They are sons of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. S. Smith Sr. of Sweetwater, Texas. Samuell's Bronze Star Medal has been received by his parents. He is now in a rest camp somewhere in the Pacific. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, August 8, 1945.
