Charles Elms is a pharmacist's mate, second class in the United States Marine Corps. Because of injuries suffered during a battle on Bougainville on November 29, 1943, he received the Purple Heart. He was on duty and assisting a wounded man in a fox hole. He also, wears the Presidential Unit Citation, the Asiatic-Pacific campaign ribbon with two stars, and the American theater ribbon. Petty Officer Elms, nineteen-year old, is home in Fort Worth, Texas, visiting his mother, Mrs. E. L. Ward. He will report for reassignment at the end of his leave on March 10.
