Title: Charles Elms, Pharmacist's mate, second class, Marine
Description: Charles Elms is a pharmacist's mate, second class in the United States Marine Corps. Because of injuries suffered during a battle on Bougainville on November 29, 1943, he received the Purple Heart. He was on duty and assisting a wounded man in a fox hole. He also, wears the Presidential Unit Citation, the Asiatic-Pacific campaign ribbon with two stars, and the American theater ribbon. Petty Officer Elms, nineteen-year old, is home in Fort Worth, Texas, visiting his mother, Mrs. E. L. Ward. He will report for reassignment at the end of his leave on March 10. Elms is shown standing against a wall in an at ease stance, dressed in his military uniform. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, February 20, 1944.
