Title: Herman Gutkowski graduates from welding school
Description: Herman Gutkowski is a veteran of more than four years of infantry service. He is the first veteran to graduate from the combination electric and acetylene welding course at the Technical Institute. The course lasted thirty-nine weeks which included techniques on both light and heavy materials, covers layout, and template design work and fabrication of pipe and structural steel. Gutkowski is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gutkowski. He graduated from Laneri High School. He holds the Combat Infrantryman's badge, the Purple Heart, Presidential unit citation and five battle star. Mr. Gutkowski takes a break from working on a steel plate. He has a torch in hand and safety goggles on his head. There are now 1,375 veterans enrolled at the Technical Institute. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, November 3, 1946.
