Title: Miss Dale Brewster honored by VFW Women
Description: Miss Dale Brewster, center, accepts citation from Mrs. Luther Taylor, right, as Mrs. E. A. Stokes watches, during a surprise ceremony Sunday night. Clipping reads: "City-County Nurses Dean Honored by VFW Women. Miss Dale Brewster, dean of nurses at City-County Hospital, was prepared for a solo she had been asked to sing Sunday [July 12, 1953] night at Englewood Heights Methodist Church. But she was totally unprepared for the surprise party she found instead. Miss Brewster was honored by the Polytechnic auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2137 for 'outstanding and unselfish devotion and service she has rendered to others.' She received commendation from Mrs. Luther Taylor, auxiliary community service chairman. A dozen red roses were given to her by Mrs. Blanche Johnson, auxiliary chaplain. Mrs. E. A. Stokes, president, presided. T. J. Ferrell, church song director, and fellow choir member, Billy Sills, provided music. Miss Brewster, a 1943 graduate of City-County, served as a nurse with the armed forces in England and France during World War II. She took the hospital post here in 1950. She has been a member of the Englewood Heights church for 16 years and is now youth director here." Published in the in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, July 13, 1953.
