Title: Benbrook Dam
Description: The slot-type concrete spillway of Benbrook Dam is shown as it appears from the air at the extreme northeast portion of the giant earth dam embankment. (1) Points to the unique seven-foot deep and 100-foot wide slot in the spillway crest which is designed to release flood waters from the lake for a 35,000 foot per second capacity discharge in the channel immediately below the structure. (2) Shows where the water will be impounded behind the dam. (3-4) Designate the tie-ins to the earth embankment, and (5) shows the spillway channel that will carry flood waters about 1 and 1/2 miles into the Trinity Clear Fork channel. The overall spillway structure, designed to discharge water only at the slot during flood conditions of past record, is 500 feet wide.
