Description: University of Texas at Arlington students had a chance to learn rappelling at the Arlington fire training center. About 35 students, with the aid of 15 ROTC members, learned the technique for descending from a height through the use of a rope system. Mark Dowd, left, and John Kulas come down the tower face first, the Australian method. Captain Gerron explained that the descents are made through the use of ropes and a latch hook and, used properly are completely safe. the 15 ROTC members are part of the Army ROTC Insurgent Team at UTA. Published in Fort Worth Star Telegram morning edition April 30, 1978.
