These two letters are an application for employment at Terrell State Hospital, solicited by Mrs. Joe A. Coffman, and a response to the application by hospital superintendent Dr. Geo P. Powell.

  1. The first letter dates September 7, 1937, and it is addressed to Dr. Geo P. Powell. In the letter, Mrs.Coffman is thanking him for his reply two weeks ago, but she is also letting him know that her husband's health has not improved and that she needs a job as soon as possible.
  2. The second letter dates September 8, 1937, and it is a reply to Mrs. Coffman's letter From September 7. Dr. Powell is letting her know that he is sorry to hear about her husband's situation and that he hopes she is able to find a job. He is also informing Mrs. Coffman that Dr. William Thomas, of Rusk State Hospital, will be taking his place at Terrell.
