Description:
A party of about 500 Comanches and Kiowas, including Chief Satanta, raid ranches along the Elm Creek tributary of the Brazos River, killing seven settlers and taking several captives. Comanche chief Little Buffalo and some of his men are killed during the raid. Fifteen Confederate troops pursue the raiders but are ambushed and forced to retreat. Twenty Indian warriors, seven settlers, and five Confederate soldiers die in the raid.
