Steve Prilliman, a former electrical engineering student received a Purple Heart award for the work he did on his masters degree while at UTA. Prilliman built a machine that allowed people who had physical disabilities to spell words on a video screen. One of the inspiration behind his work was his sister Connie Prilliman who has cerebral palsy, and found it difficult to communicate effectively. .
