Staff Sergeant Warren C. Cowen and and Sergeant Ted Shrum, both in military uniform, pose in front of an Army recruitment poster from the United States Army Medical Department. Women are being recruited to serve as medical technicians. United States Army Staff Sergeant Cowen lost both legs during battle on New Britain during World War II. He served in the Texas House of Representatives from 1947-1963, representing primarily Tarrant County.
