Col. Edward Burleson engages a group of Cherokees near the mouth of the San Saba River, eight miles northwest of present-day San Saba, who are trying to make their way to Mexico. Six Cherokees are killed, including Chief Egg and Chief John Bowles, the son of Chief Bowles. One Ranger, Capt. Lynch, is killed.
